Since 2011 has all but officially wound to a close, its time again to reveal Suddenbrain’s top 5 list for the year. This time, however, we’ve come up with a bit of a different list. If you read our recent article Is Creativity in Video Games Dying? 2 Things to Consider, you know that we are all for celebrating originality in ideas. In honor of that fact, this year’s top 5 are all original titles. If it was a sequel it was automatically disqualified from the running. So without further ado here’s our top 5 picks for original games in 2011, and after your done checking out the list help yourself to the free wallpaper which includes images from all 5 games.
5. El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron:
Striking abstract visual design along with streamlined, yet challenging combat make El Shaddai worth it’s weight in myrrh.
With a morality system that shuns the idea of good and bad, challenging puzzles, and a compelling adult storyline, Catherine is worth checking out if your looking for a little something different on the side…no pun intended.
Bastion combines beautiful design with surprisingly challenging, diverse gameplay. Sometimes simpler is better, especially when a developer successfully pairs it with variety as is the case with Bastion.
2. LA Noire
Noire combines compelling realistic atmospheres, with over the top action and drama to make for a game thats tough to put down. These things may be typical of Rockstar games, but I’d rather see more original titles like this than another GTA.
Minecraft has a lasting power that is rarely seen in new titles today, and its all wrapped up in the fact that the user is solely responsible for creating the experience. It’s a game the Suddenbrain team is sure to go back to again and again.
